Katamari is a series of puzzle-action video games where you have to roll up ordinary objects on Earth to turn into stars and constellations using the titular Katamari. The series has six mainline games, quite a few spinoff titles (including a defunct Korean online MMO that is partially lost media), and remakes of the first two mainline games.
Funnily enough, I wasn't aware of this series before discovering ShiftyLook! Its webcomic launched shortly before Klonoa's, and it actually had me interested in searching for the games. Let's say that I got very lucky at a secondhand shop that I frequent and found a copy of the first game of the series, Katamari Damacy, at a decent price shortly after the comic launched in September 2012.
The main gist of Katamari Damacy is that you are playing as The Prince of All Cosmos, or just The Prince for simplicity's sake. Your dad, The King of All Cosmos, essentially got drunk and destroyed stars, constellations, and other celestial bodies, and you're tasked to roll up various objects to remake them. Actually... you have to make stars for him in every game. This post explains it best:
The vibes of Katamari are incredibly silly and wacky with its dialogue, music, and visuals. To me, that makes the series a very nice pick-me-up when needed. The wackiness is part of why Katamari is one of my favorite Namco franchises.
