Klonoa: Dream Traveler of Noctis Sol

 Oh boy oh BOY this comic is the reason why I even started checking out ShiftyLook in the first place. This was the first official piece of Klonoa media that we had gotten that wasn't a remake in ten years at the time! This comic launched on September 26th, 2012 and had 65 strips, but was the only ShiftyLook project that had not gotten a proper conclusion.

 The comic interprets Klonoa's previous adventures, such as the mainline games and spinoffs, being his very own dreams, and that he may have trouble remembering every single one. As the kind of person who tries to lump all of the canon together in some shape or form, I absolutely love this interpretation.

 Seriously, look how Ariga drew Lolo. She looks absolutely precious. All of the characters drawn for the comic look wonderful in his artstyle, but I need to point out Lolo in specific since she's my favorite...

 While some familiar characters have returned (such as Huepow, Lolo, and Popka), there are also some characters who were made specially for this webcomic that were first introduced here, such as Tenebrae Hue, the big bad of the comic, and the Nighty-Knights, his minions.

...oh boy. let's get Nightmare Klonoa out of the way. I have thoughts and have no idea where else to put them. (CW for character negativity, spoilers for the comic)

 Listen. I like the dark doppelganger trope. I like Nightmare Klonoa as a concept. He has a fun design that is absolutely fun to draw. He literally had me at the edge of my seat when I first saw the comic strip he debuted in. But the way I saw certain parts of the Klonoa community portray him during my time there have sadly ruined my enjoyment of the character for the most part. I never liked it when people try to woobify villains such as him. I sure as hell won't stop them, but I don't enjoy it.
 Nightmare is meant to be a dark doppelganger of Klonoa, not the same as him. Klonoa's equivalent of Scourge from the Archie Sonic comics, for lack of a better comparison. He literally bullied Lolo and told her that Klonoa himself wasn't coming back for shits and giggles. I truly think that Nightmare's meant to be a sadistic character, the polar opposite of Klonoa's kind and caring nature. It really makes me wonder what else he'd say to Lolo or even Klonoa himself if the comic ever does get an official continuation (I doubt it will happen at this rate knowing how Bandai Namco treats most of their franchises nowadays, but I can dream).

 The best way I can describe this is that it's just the "Oh, Anna, if only there was someone out there who loved you" bit from Frozen with Nightmare and how he treated Lolo. I have zero idea what The Vision™ was for the character (especially since he was not explored enough before the abrupt ending, but I do have a really cool personal interpretation in mind), but there is not a single glimpse of redemption in Nightmare. This is coming from someone who likes the King of Sorrow, a character who I truly felt deserved that redemption. You cannot convince me otherwise.

 Despite the lack of a proper conclusion, this is a pretty neat read that adds a bit more to the Klonoa continuity. If you do want to read the comic, I highly advise that you play (or at least watch playthroughs if you cannot play the games for whatever reason) the two mainline Klonoa games, Door to Phantomile and Lunatea's Veil, first. The first two comic strips have some heavy spoilers from those games.
