Chapter 2 - The Pool of Tears
Minit’s had found herself in a hallway consisting of many colorful doors, a pink-and-white checkered floor, and faint blue-and-green striped wallpaper on the walls, though there was no Mimi in sight.
Naturally, the girl had decided to try opening each door, to no avail. None of the doors would even budge, not even just a little bit.
“No luck with any of these, huh…”
She turned around to see a little, round glass table with a golden key sitting on it. Minit’s had picked the key up, hoping it would work for at least one of the doors… yet again, zero luck. With each door she tried, the key either wouldn’t even fit, or it couldn’t be turned once it was in the keyhole.
The child then noticed a small pink curtain at the end of the hall, something she knew wasn’t there before. She pulled open the curtain to reveal a small purple door. She squealed in delight over how adorable the sight was!
“Oh, this is so cute!! I wonder if this is meant for a hamster or something? Or maybe my calico critters could fit?” Minit’s pondered aloud as she tested the key on the little door.
*Click!*
And just like that, she was able to unlock and open the tiny door! It led to what looked like a garden area, complete with a picket fence and some trees and bushes.
“It looks so pretty, it’s almost like home… but how am I supposed to fit through this door?”
She turned back to the table, to see that there was now a tiny glass jar sitting on it. The jar had a wooden cork top and was filled with a pastel pink liquid, almost like bubblegum-flavored medicine. A tiny tag reading “Drink Me” was wrapped around the neck of the jar. Minit’s certainly did not recall this being there earlier.
She walked back to the table, placing the key next to the jar before picking it up.
“Drink me..? But what if it isn’t safe?” the cyan-haired girl asked herself. She remembered both Timer and her parents telling her not to drink anything that smelled or looked suspicious.
She had decided to open the jar, taking a quick sniff of the liquid. It had a sweet aroma to it, almost like it had come from a sweets shop. It didn’t smell suspicious, so she had decided to take a sip. She happily gasped, realizing that the drink tasted like a combination of strawberry lemonade and bubblegum, and just had to have a little more! It almost seemed like her surroundings were growing larger as she drank the sweet concoction…
Wait. Was she actually shrinking?! Minit’s shrieked upon the realization, letting go of the jar that was now slightly taller than her. She was now a few inches tall in height, or roughly 5 to 7 centimeters.
After taking a moment to calm down a bit, she realized that she was probably now small enough to fit through that tiny door! She raced over to the door and put her hand on the doorknob. Her excitement had turned into frustration when she realized that she needed to use the key to unlock it again. That meant that she had to go back to the table and try to see if she could climb up it.
As she arrived back at the table, Minit’s had noticed a pair of gloves and a fan on the floor and had picked them up – perhaps Mimi had dropped them? The girl put the items into her hoodie’s pocket and started to try climbing one of the table’s legs… to no avail. The glass was simply too slippery for her to even keep her grasp on.
“It’s no use if I can’t reach the key…” Minit’s cried, “I can’t get anywhere if I’m this small, and I won’t be able to go home and see my brother again!!”
The very thought of not being able to see Timer again had her very worried. At the loss of not knowing what to do in this situation, she immediately burst into tears and started to wail.
She had cried so much that the room had started to flood from all of the water from her tears! It had eventually reached the point where the tiny door had burst open, surprising Minit’s. This was certainly a way out of the hallway. Not the way she expected, but it was certainly a way out.
Minit’s had just noticed how sopping wet her hair and outfit had become as she got herself out of the water, hearing a few young voices nearby:
“Where’d this river come from?”
“I think she cried it all out!”
“Fuwawawaa…”
She then had realized how much crying it would have taken to have this much water, enough to somehow make a river.
“...Oh gosh, did I really cry that much?!”
