Chapter 3 - The Caucus Race
Minit’s had taken a look at the different creatures who were surprised to see her, and she actually recognized them all to some degree. She’d seen them all around Pop’n Town every now and then.
There was Fuwawa, two tiny little flower fairies wearing chartreuse and cerulean dresses who seemed to be more curious than upset if anything, wearing little mouse ear headbands on their heads, which had one big, grass-like strand of green hair that stuck upwards and a little hair accessory (a leaf for chartreuse, and a flower for cerulean).
The next creature was Dino, a little green dinosaur with little yellow spikes that lined up from the top of his head to the end of his tail, a peach-colored face, and red eyes.
There was also Bob 2002, a round, little green robot-looking creature with the top of his head being white and a black and pink checkered pattern across the middle of his body. wearing goggles, a silver jetpack, a
Two more were a couple of bee girls, Candy and Hina. Hina had very short orange hair, black eyes, and two wings on her back. She wore a yellow cap with two tiny antennae that covered up most of her hair, a yellow shirt with two red buttons on them, orange-red overalls with green straps, and yellow stockings. Meanwhile, Candy had short, fluffy purple hair, orange eyes, two blue antennae, and a pair of wings on her back. Her outfit was a simple yellow one with a ruffled white collar, and blue shoes.
The one who seemed to be in charge was Poet, a very kind-hearted yellow-eyed girl with dark blonde hair in two shoulder-length ponytails, and a pair of white angel wings on her back. She was wearing an outfit that resembled a Dodo bird.
But there was one problem. Everyone was sopping wet.
“I-I’m really sorry about this!” Minit’s apologized, bowing down as much as her body would let her.
“It’s okay! I know you didn’t mean it.” Poet gently smiled. “But we’ll need to figure out a way to dry off.”
“We could always sit in the sun.” Minit’s suggested.
“That’s boring though!!” Hina said as she flopped onto the grassy ground.
“Yeah! That takes too long!” Candy agreed.
“What else can we do then?” the cyan-haired girl asked.
“Oh! How about a caucus race around the tree?” Dino suggested.
Everyone turned to see the giant bark tree in the backyard area they were in. It certainly did provide shade, but it was large enough for them to run some laps around.
The angel girl clapped her hands together, a wide grin on her face. “That’s a lovely idea, Dino! The wind will dry us off!”
The others in the group cheered, agreeing with Dino and Poet.
“Wait a second. What’s a caucus race?” Minit’s asked, the bunny ears on her hoodie flopping as she tilted her head in curiosity.
“The best way to explain it is to just do it!” the dinosaur stated.
“Ready, steady, GO!!”
As the children were running laps around the giant tree, Minit’s gradually noticed her clothes and hair getting drier and drier as she passed a few of the racers. Maybe this caucus race wasn’t such a bad idea after all! It was the first time she felt like she was having actual fun in this strange world!
“Yay, I’m all dry!” Bob 2002 called out.
“Me too!!” someone else cheered.
“Fuwawaaa!”
“Same! Did I win?” Minit’s asked.
“Nah, nobody exactly wins in a caucus race,” Dino stated.
“What’s the point of it, then?!” She was admittedly a bit miffed at the idea.
“Oh, it’s all just for fun!” Poet stated. “No competition whatsoever!”
“But it’s not a race if nobody wins-”
As she was about to continue speaking, Minit’s had spotted Mimi in the distance yet again.
“Okay, I gotta go, thanks for the game,” she squeaked as she ran off from the others, “Mimi-neechan, wait for me!!!”
